After visiting grandma for a couple of days and spending cosy nights by the fire  in the cottage next door, while temperatures dropped sub-zero outside, we left again for Gothenburg to finalize our packing and take the next step… to Malta.

Pussycat at sunrise, Madstugan, Sweden

An old cat lives in the Red Cottage by a lake close to Torpa, Sweden. The cottage is known to be from the 1600’s, today an old, wooden, typically red on the outside structure. Inside it is small and cosy, with a lovely wood stove and warm upstairs bedrooms like this one. I try to be there as frequently as possible, though with 3.5-4 hrs train from Gothenburg it isn’t easy at all.

Trees now golden,

soon lie bare,

bony fingers,

in the crisp night air.

It was a cold autumn afternoon as we set out down the path from the red cottage.

Down the road from home

At last we came out from the little road to find ourselves on a sort of main road.

Walking and walking down the big road we finally reached a smaller dirt road to the left, which curved inward as we walked along, until finally the farm building we were heading for popped up behind a small hill.

The farmhouse appears

At last we were there. A little further and the whole thing came into view. We walked into the little blue door sitting squatted next to a big black barn door, and found ourselves in a little room (which I didn’t photograph). We got our eggs, put the money into a little, red, metal money-box, and got out again. The smell of chickens was a little overwhelming.

On our way back we looked to our right, and saw a right little ghost house.  Reminded me of Stephen King’s novel where the Marsten house lies on the hill overlooking ‘Salem’s lot.

Spooky house? Not really.

It’s actually quite a nice looking house, and not really that imposing (maybe with an added first floor it would). Perhaps it is its lonely setting and those big eyes looking down from the barren hill that give it a rather creepy look.

On the way home

We turned back  into the main road, down the path, and finally… back to the red cottage.

Dry leaves in Autumn. Torpa, Tranås, Sweden

I’ve come up to a little house in the country with my girlfriend’s parents. It’s a really nice place in the middle of the countryside 30 minutes from Tranås. Autumn has set in, and it feels like we’re now closer to Winter, as the memory of Summer fades from our minds and from the very landscape around us. The air is cold, a the land lies in a sort of drowsy half-sleep, covered in a sheet of reds, oranges, browns and greens.  Everything seems to be preparing for the winter ahead.
